This is why New Jersey is the 2nd most stressed state
A new study has come out of Zippia that claims New Jersey is the 2nd most stressed state in the nation.
When you look at the criteria and the raw data, it’s not surprising. For a second, let’s put aside the huge amount of stress that the pandemic has brought to all of us, it’s a major factor that has affected most of the population in every state across the country.
New Jersey is the 2nd most stressed state because:
— We have the most densely populated state. People are on top of each other and not necessarily in a good way.
— People in New Jersey work longer hours and get in their cars and have longer commutes on congested highways.
— New Jerseyans have a high price-to-income ratio, add in the high property taxes, and you may forget that your home is a safe haven from the work stress you’re under.
These are some of the factors that cause New Jersey residents a lot of stress.
If you add the results of a pandemic as it eased congestion on the roads and many New Jersey employees worked from home, which is positive, stress levels still skyrocketed. Uncertainty in the workplace, pay cuts, layoffs and childcare became ways to add to an already overworked and stressed New Jerseyan.
Across this country, in 2022, 84% of Americans report feeling stressed every week. The study also shows that before walking through the front door of your company or place of work, 12% of American workers on long commutes are stressed before arriving at the workplace. Throw your daily stress from your job on top of that and it’s pretty intense.
If New Jersey is the 2nd most stressed state, who is number 1? Florida is the most stressed state in the country. I wouldn’t have guessed. With Florida having 13% uninsured residents and a 3% unemployment rate, they are getting the nod from the stressed state. Iowa is the least stressed state in the nation with a low uninsured rate of just 4% and an average commute time of 19 minutes, things are going well in Iowa.
How do we deal with the stress we have?
Here in New Jersey, we are blessed with some of the best beaches in the country, boardwalks, parks, various resources like the Liberty Science Center or the many museums that dot the entire state. New Jersey has no shortage of great places to unwind. I love the food and the music scene. It’s also great to attend a minor league baseball game where the prices are reasonable and the entertainment enjoyable. We have a beautiful Monmouth Park race track in Oceanport, Atlantic City, Wildwood and Cape May.
We have to work harder at relieving stress here in New Jersey because we have many stress-related obstacles that sometimes make us feel like we’re stuck in the mud. Use the resources we have here in New Jersey to take a deep breath that will help you cope with any stress you may be feeling. Contact a professional for help if it’s too overwhelming. Remember you’re Jersey strong! Good luck!
