Submerged cars after powerful storms on Saturday caused heavy flooding in Newark
The storm was mad and swift – strong winds and heavy rain flooded the corner of Van Buren and Clifford streets.
A car stalled as a man crossed the high water and also got stuck. He had no choice but to push his vehicle.
Edward Vance has lived in Newark for eight years and worried about his car.
“We have a Mercedes and the water was high so we had to get out and move it,” Vance said.
Lightning on I-78 showed the wrath of the storm. Hail was also reported at Newark Airport, and some terminals were flooded with water as passengers witnessed heavy rain seeping in, inundating floors and entrances.
Newark Police report that five patients at a dialysis center were taken home by a police bus due to flooding in the building.
Vance knows it’s not over and is ready for the next set of storms.
“We are laying sandbags now – hope the houses don’t get flooded, and I hope our cars are parked in a safe place, and we hope for the best,” he said.
Being prepared is the key to dealing with the wild weather.
Despite the flooded streets, the police did not report any injuries.
