Stimulus Control Update: 2.3 Million Americans Support Monthly $ 2,000 Checks
There have been three rounds of coronavirus stimulus checks. Nearly 2.3 million Americans have signed an online petition asking for more.
A change.org petition posted by a Denver restaurant owner calls for monthly checks of $ 2,000 for adults and $ 1,000 for children until the current economic downturn induced by the coronavirus pandemic is over.
“Our country is still in difficulty,” wrote restaurant owner Stéphanie Bonin. “The recovery hasn’t reached many Americans … and many people are facing big debts over the past year for things like utilities, rent, and child care.”
Congressional Democrats in March approved checks for $ 1,400 to most Americans against unanimous Republican opposition as part of President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 billion coronavirus stimulus bill.

While Biden has called for spending an additional $ 4 trillion on infrastructure, education and child care, he has not proposed another round of stimulus checks. Legislation introduced by some House Democrats, including Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-12th Dist., Would provide monthly stimulus checks of $ 2,000, but the bill has not gained popularity on Capitol Hill.
And in March, 21 Senate Democrats, including Cory Booker, called for monthly checks until the economy recovers.
Congress extended improved unemployment benefits by $ 300 per week until September. Plus, most families with children will receive monthly payments of up to $ 300 per month through an expanded child tax credit starting next month.
