NJ rapper Fetty Wap arrested at Newark airport, officials say
Popular New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday on a pending warrant, authorities said.
Fetty Wap – whose legal name is William Junior Maxwell II – was arrested at an airport checkpoint around 1:40 p.m. after officers were informed via an ankle monitor call of an active warrant from from North Bergen, a spokesperson for the port. Authorities in New York and New Jersey told NJ Advance Media.
He was released after posting bail, Port Authority spokeswoman Amber Greene said.
The warrant was for a North Bergen public nuisance order, Greene said. North Bergen Police could not immediately provide further details of the warrant when it was reached on Saturday.
Fetty Wap was released on $ 500,000 bail and other restrictions in November after being charged with federal drug charges.
The Paterson native is one of six people accused by federal authorities in the Eastern District of New York of allegedly conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances.
The Paterson native burst onto the scene in 2015 with the hit “Trap Queen” and is a two-time Grammy nominee.
