New Jersey man arrested after video allegedly shows him yelling racial slurs at neighbors
Mount Laurel is located in southern Jersey, approximately 20 miles from Philadelphia.
According to an affidavit, Mathews was captured on July 2 by a neighbor’s doorbell camera “throwing his hips in an obscene motion while laughing” while looking at the camera. He’s also “heard” fucking monkey “. The neighbor is a black woman who sits on the Homeowners Association (HOA) board of directors and told police Mathews had called her racial insults in recent months, according to the affidavit. The affidavit states that Mathew’s actions were an attempt to intimidate her into leaving the neighborhood.
On the same day, according to a second affidavit, Mathews allegedly used racial slurs during a verbal altercation with neighbors at another residence. The affidavit states that Mathews could be heard telling neighbors that “he had kicked other residents (African Americans and members of the HOA board of directors) from the community,” and that one of the residents, whose husband is African-American and chairman of the board of directors of the HOA, reported Mathews tried to enter her home.
According to the affidavit, neighbors of the second residence told police Mathews called them racist insults and appeared to “kiss, lick or spit on (one of the neighbors) in an attempt to escalate the altercation” , before “banging him on the chest”. .
A video posted on social media shows the end of the confrontation.
