Never underestimate the power of kindness in New Jersey
A little message to you all from the heart. Thanks for being you. I say this because of a recent incident that happened one morning as we were dropping our children off at school.
Let me explain. The school for our children does not have regular shuttles for the shuttles. So every morning my wife or I will be taking our two six year olds to school to start the day.
Of course, you still want a smooth morning. But as is often the case with young children, balmy mornings aren’t always there.
This was the case one morning when it was my wife’s day to drop off the children. One of my sons had a rough night and an even more difficult morning.
Surprisingly, we were able to get the kids ready and go out not too late in the morning, but always a little later.
At school, my only son refused to go to school and basically caused a scene. It was one of those mornings when I wished I had dropped them off so my wife wouldn’t have to put up with it. But you can’t predict when your kids are going to collapse.
So my wife did her best to calm him down and get him in. At one point, the gym teacher also came to try his luck.
It went on for about five minutes without success. And at this point you can only imagine how frustrated my wife was.
Enter this very sweet elderly lady. From what I understood, this woman, whom we do not know who she was, approached and spoke to my son to try to get him to leave. And it worked.
Just like that, my son calmed down and entered the building without any backflow.
My wife and the gym teacher were apparently shocked. They don’t know how this nice old lady did it, but she ended up saving the morning.
I wish I had been there so that I could tell you firsthand about the kindness of this woman. She is most likely the grandmother of someone who drops off her grandchild. We really don’t know, but we appreciate his kindness so much.
So to that woman who calmed my son, and to everyone who has been kind to others like that, we thank you.
Thanks for being you. Parenting can be very exhausting, and it can be hard to know exactly what to say when your kids are going through something like this.
Not only did you save the morning, but my son also said he had a great day at school. It means that your act of kindness did more than just bring him into the building. It also made his day.
