Loaned Arsenal man returns to impress
Konstantinos Mavropanos made his first start since December 15 against Mainz on Friday night. The defender had spent a few games on the bench in January, but made a good impression during his 45-minute appearance last Saturday.
As a result, he took a start this time around and certainly made the most of it. The center-back made six clearances, six interceptions and four tackles without being dribbled as his team kept their clean sheet to win 2-0.
As usual, Mavropanos also won the vast majority of their individual matches, including four of five on the ground and seven of 10 in the air.
The Arsenal defender on loan struck, but before panicking Sven Mislintat told the media then that it was nothing an ice pack couldn’t fix.
Overall, this is the kind of performance he needed to get back into the starting XI. Mavropanos has already had to deal with a ripped meniscus this season, but he has up to eight Bundesliga appearances and there should be more to come.
